Saturday May 23, 2020 “We Can Work It Out” Paul McCartney

We heard from George and then from John earlier so it seemed only appropriate that we give Paul equal time, and then on to Ringo and then maybe all four together. Now I know this is actually a Beatles tune rather than a solo adventure but it is appropriate bcause it is Paul acoustically, it’s his song, the theme fit the moment and the video is just fun to watch as he forgets the lyrics and has to restart...twice.

Back in the days of Wings, I was in St. Louis on business, driving in my rental car to a morning meeting when the local station played a recording from the Wings concert that had taken place there the evening before. They had isolated Linda McCartney’s vocals from the concert and they weren't pretty. Those crazy morning DJ’s were having the time of their lives making fun of her and they played it a second time, laughed and joked and then a third time and then...it was interrupted midway and the program director came on the radio.

He very seriously apologized to Paul McCartney for the outtake and then the crazy morning DJ’s came on (now very contrite) and each issued their own very solemn version of the same apology and in an attempt to save face let it be known that the station had been contacted by Mr. McCartney suggesting that they never play that again.

To paraphrase Jim Croce, you don’t spit into the wind, you don’t tug on Superman’s cape, and you don’t mess around with Paul.

I met Paul once though, a very different story, and he was open, pleasant and an extremely friendly and sympathetic gentleman.

Stay safe and well...and we will work this out.

Try to see it my way
Do I have to keep on talking 'til I can't go on?
While you see it your way
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone
We can work it out
We can work it out

Think of what you're saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright
Think of what I'm saying
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night
We can work it out
We can work it out

Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So, I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we might fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out

Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we might fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out
