Wednesday November 17, 2021 “She’s the One” Bruce Springsteen
Yes, even Bruce has borrowed Bo Diddley’s beat.
I watched Springsteen on Broadway recently, which I would recommend with the caveat that I am not currently a big Bruce fan, but it was very entertaining. He’s a good storyteller. In that show he makes a self deprecating and somewhat ironic point that for all of his working man songs and his image as a blue collar guy, Bruce has never actually worked a day in his life, never held a job outside of being ‘Bruce’.
Bruce became friends with and supported Barack Obama during his first run for the presidency and recently got together to do a podcast which also generated a book. During their initial discussions before the podcast Bruce asked Obama what he should call him and the reply was simply, “Barack”. Obama then asked how Bruce would like to be referred to and his reply was “Mr. Boss”.
Today’s Bo Diddley tribute song, “She’s the One” is a frequent tune on Bruce’s setlist for concerts which often also included the song “Bo Diddley” further expressing his respect for the man. Bruce has an Oscar, twenty Grammys, a special Tony and has been nominated for three Emmys. He has sold more than 150 million records and continues to fill concert halls around the world when he tours.
Stay safe and well...and this 1975 Springsteen song sounds pretty similar to the 1983 song "On the Dark Side" from the movie Eddie & the Cruisers...what do you think?
