Monday November 1, 2021 “I Saw the Light” Todd Rundgren (and friends)
This past Saturday, October 30, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted the Class of 2021 artists so it just seemed sensible to celebrate these mew members. Just for the sake of clarity it is worth understanding how artists get included for this ‘high honor’. So here’s the official explanation.
In order to be inducted, an artist must have had a hit record 25 years ago and be nominated by a committee (?) that selects a number of candidates. Ballots are then sent to more than 1,000 "rock experts" (?) who evaluate the candidates and vote on who should be inducted.
We will start the week with multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and prolific producer Todd Rundgren. So much to cover here so we will just go with the highlights. Rundgren was an active member of the bands, The Nazz, Utopia and Runt, the last of which was essentially a solo effort where Rundgren wrote, sang, played all of the instruments except for the bass and drums which were played by Hunt and Tony Sales...sons of TV comedian Soupy Sales.
As a producer Todd Rundgren has worked with artists as diverse as Badfinger, Meat Loaf, Grand Funk Railroad, the New York Dolls, the Psychedelic Furs, and XTC among so many others.
Rundgren has suggested that today’s song of the day “I Saw the Light” is a musical tribute to Carole King, who we will be getting to tomorrow.
Stay safe and well...and this video comes from the Live at Daryl’s House web series and was recorded at Rundgren’s Hawaiian farm. Is Todd wearing a dress...not that it should matter.
