Sunday May 29, 2022 “Go Now” Moody Blues
The Moody Blues was formed in early 1964 by Ray Thomas (harmonica, flute, vocals) and Mike Pinder (keyboards, vocals), who had previously played together in a couple of local Birmingham bands…in the UK that is not Alabama The band was originally called the M&B Five named after brewery Mitchell & Butlers.
The Moody Blues lead singer on “Go Now” was Denny Laine, whose pained vocals added so much to the single but he would leave the Moody Blues to set up his own Electric String Band in 1966 and he would later join forces with Paul McCartney in Wings.
The Moody Blues re-formed a short time after Laine left with new members Justin Hayward and John Lodge, who became the primary songwriters in the group. After “Go Now” the Moody Blues would have several successful singles including "Nights in White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice", "Your Wildest Dreams" and "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)".
The band has sold 70 million albums worldwide, which includes 18 platinum and gold LPs and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018…twenty nine years after they were eligible to be inducted.
Stay safe and well…and enjoy this top ten hit which when it was released in 1966 included one of the very first promotional videos used for a song, long before the launch of MtV in 1981.
