Tuesday April 6, 2021 “Hold Me Now” The Thompson Twins
No surprise here, there are no twins in the band, The Thompson Twins are not a duo and no one is named Thompson.
The most recognizable and successful version of the Thompson Twins, a name taken by the way from the comic book The Adventures of TinTin, was keyboard player, singer/songwriter Tom Bailey, his girlfriend, future wife and multi-instrumentalist Alannah Currie and percussionist Joe Leeway.
“Hold Me Now”, their most successful US release peaked at number five and stayed on the charts for twenty one weeks. Part of the band’s popularity in the US was based on their video which received wide MtV airplay. It was created by a team headed by Nick Morris who would produce videos for “Final Countdown” by Europe (the band not the continent), “Kyrie” by Mr. Mister and “Everytime You Go Away” by Paul Young.
The Thompson Twins would have two more charting hits but were unable to sustain their success and like all bands faced with the same circumstances, they broke up as did the marriage of Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie.
Stay safe and well...bet you can’t wait for those 80s fashions to make a comeback.
