Friday March 26, 2021 “Real Real Gone” Van Morrison

We have featured Van Morrison earlier but it wasn’t  “Real Real Gone” however song of the dayer Kate sent this in as a suggestion for ‘best of’ saying you can’t listen to this and not smile.  So let’s give it a listen and see if we smile, I’m betting we will.

Equal parts blue-eyed soul singer and wild-eyed poet, Van Morrison is among music's true innovators.  Born in Belfast, Ireland, George Ivan Morrison's musical career covers such a wide variety of genres that he is difficult to label. He has written and performed some of rock music's most enduring standards, including "Gloria," "Brown Eyed Girl" (originally written as “Brown Skinned Girl”) and "Moondance," and is a member of both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Morrison’s first solo album/CD was produced by Bert Berns, a man you probably have never heard of because he died at the very young age of 38 but before he passed he wrote and produced songs like “Twist & Shout”, “A Little Bit of Soap”, “Here Comes the Night”, “I Want Candy”, “Cry Baby”, “Piece of My Heart” and “Hang on Sloopy” among many other hit tunes.

Stay safe and well...and see if you can catch all five of the singers that Van Morrison name checks in this tune.

Real real gone

I got hit by a bow and arrow

Got me down to the very marrow

And I'm real, real gone

Real real gone

I can't stand up by myself

Don't you know I need your help

And I'm real, real gone

Some people say

You can make it on your own

Oh you can make it if you try

I know better now

You can't stand up alone

Oh baby that is why

I'm real, real gone

I can't stand up by myself

Don't you know I need your help

You're a friend of mine

And I'm real, real gone

And Sam Cooke is on the radio

And the night is filled with space

And your fingertips touch my face

You're a friend of mine

And I'm real, real gone

I'm real gone

Oh Lord I got hit by a bow and arrow

Got me down to the very marrow

You're a friend of mine

And I'm real, real gone

And I'm real, real gone

I'm real gone
