Tuesday March 23, 2021 “It’s a Beautiful Morning” The Rascals

It was on this day March 23, 2020 that the song of the day began so it seemed only appropriate to mark the date by going back exactly one year for Song of the Day number one, back when we really had no idea what was coming, back when it was so dark but about to get even darker.

This March 23 we have moved into a world of hope and can almost see that light of relief at the end of this long tunnel, but in our optimism let’s not forget all those nurses and doctors, police, fire fighters, grocery store workers, mailmen and so many others who got us this far and also remember all those we have lost as a result of something so unfathomably small and dangerous.

Monday March 23, 2020, 'It's a Beautiful Morning' by the Rascals.

OK it's not such a beautiful morning, snowing here in Westchester, but the sentiment is there, and it's certainly worth considering 'I think I'll go outside and just smile.'  A happy tune with a positive message and as an aside way back when I was on the radio, pretending to be a DJ, this was the very first song I played, my choice, it was a beautiful morning.  And the Rascals are local NY boys who had a string of wonderful songs back when we listened to music on turntables, so if you are moved to check out more of them I don't think you will be disappointed..

So turn off the news, give this song a listen, then put on your hat and coat and go outside and just smile, take someone with you too.  And if you can't get outside, maybe just smile.  Lyrics are below if you are moved to sing along and there is a link to the Spotify list John started that has grown to wonderful proportions and will likely fill a couple of days without a single mention of any viruses, unless you consider music infectious.

Am missing some addresses which is why I included all of them so if you have a notion please forward it on to anyone I missed and send me the address.  More tomorrow.

In the meantime be well...and maybe just smile, it's good therapy.

It's a beautiful morning, ah
I think I'll go outside for a while
And just smile
Just take in some clean fresh air, boy
No sense in staying inside
If the weather's fine and you've got the time
It's your chance to wake up and plan another brand new day
Either way

It's a beautiful morning, ah
Each bird keeps singing his own song
So long
I've got to be on my way now
No fun just hanging around
I got to cover ground
You couldn't keep me down
It just ain't no good if the sun shines
When you're still inside
Shouldn't hide
Still inside
Shouldn't hide
Still inside, shouldn't hide.
Oh, oh, oh

Ooh-ah-ah
Ooh-ah-ah

There will be children with robins and flowers
Sunshine caresses each new waking hour

Seems to me that people keep seeing more and more each day
Gotta say, lead the way
It's okay, brand new day
Gotta say, it's okay
Brand new day, gotta say, lead the way
Oh, oh, ohOoh-ah-ah
Oh, oh, oh
Ooh-ah-ah
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh
Ooh-ah-ah
Oh
Ooh-ah-ah
Oh, oh, oh
