Thursday September 1, 2022 “Angel” Aerosmith
Angel week continues with Aerosmith, a band formed in Boston in 1970. The group consists of Steven Tyler (lead vocals), Joe Perry (guitar), Tom Hamilton (bass), Joey Kramer (drums) and Brad Whitford (guitar), a line-up in the ever changing members of rock bands that has remained essentially the same for over fifty years.
Aerosmith has 25 gold albums, 18 platinum albums, and 12 multi-platinum album certifications, in addition to one diamond album, four gold singles, and one platinum digital single and they have sold more than 150 million records worldwide.
Today’s ‘angel’ was written by Desmond Child along with Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler. Desmond Child has written quite a few other big hits including Kiss's "I Was Made for Lovin' You"; Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself for Loving You"; Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer", "Bad Medicine", and "Born to Be My Baby "; Aerosmith's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady). "
Hard rocking Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has said that Geffen Records ruined his career by making him write 'Angel' with Desmond, but if you look at their discography their hits following “Angel” were dominated by power ballads just like “Angel”.
Stay safe and well…and for any of Steven Tyler’s objections to “Angel” remember that Aerosmoth’s first big hit was “Dream On'' a power ballad written by, wait for it, Steven Tyler.
