Monday August 29, 2022 “Johnny Angel” Shelley Fabares
“Angels are spiritual beings believed to act as an attendant, agent, or messenger of God, conventionally represented in human form with wings and a long robe.” OK sure, but you’re thinking, so what. Well I thought that this week’s theme would be angels which would provide me the opportunity to include Shelley Fabares in a song of the day.
So those of us old enough to remember the Donna Reed Show will immediately recall Shelley Fabares and those males who fit that age profile will, if they are honest, acknowledge an early crush on Donna’s ‘daughter Mary Stone portrayed by today’s artist.
Following her stint on the Donna Reed Show, Shelley Fabares would do back to back roles with Elvis in Girl Happy, Spinout and Clambake and would be Peter Noone’s love interest in the Herman’s Hermits movie Hold On!. She would also play coach’s girlfriend in the long running TV series Coach.
Today’s million selling number one hit was co-written by Lee Pokriss who would also pen Perry Como’s top ten hit “Catch a Falling Star”, Brian Hyland’s number one hit “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” and the top ten hit “Tracy” by the Cuff Links.
As an aside The Cuff inks were basically singer/songwriter/producer Ron Dante who would also be the voice of the bubble gum group the Archies and would produce Barry Manilow’s first nine albums.
