Tuesday April 19, 2022 “Let’s Dance” David Bowie
David Bowie has said ‘let’s dance’ and it wasn’t a question so what are we to do now.
Bowie and singer/songwriter/guitarist Peter Frampton struck up a friendship as youngsters when both attended Bromley Technical High School, where Frampton’s dad was also Bowie’s art teacher. The two remained close friends until Bowie’s death. In their teenage years Bowie, then David Jones and Elton John, then Reg Dwight were also good friends getting together frequently to talk and play music. Elton and David had a falling out however and did not remain friends.
Stevie Ray Vaughan played lead guitar on “Let’s Dance” which was the title track to Bowie's 15th album and was produced by Nile Rodgers, who was responsible for the album's funky sound. Rodgers founded the disco band, Chic, and produced hits for Diana Ross, including "Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out." He also produced Madonna's 1985 album Like a Virgin.
Sadly, on January 10, 2016 David Bowie died at his Lafayette Street home in New York City, having suffered from liver cancer for 18 months. He died two days after the release of his twenty-sixth and final studio album, Blackstar, which coincided with his 69th birthday.
Stay safe and well…and hey, Bowie requested it so “let’s dance to the song they are playing on the radio.”
