Monday September 28, 2020 “Addicted to Love” Robert Palmer
How often have you found yourself singing along with a song only to find out that you’re singing the wrong lyrics. So this week we will visit some songs with lyrics that are a) either frequently misheard or b) just so amusing in the misunderstanding that I couldn’t resist.
Let’s start with b) for today.
The song title is “Addicted to Love” so it would seem pretty odd that anyone could misunderstand a chorus that echoes the title but alas there appear to be people that have heard something completely different.
A number one song remembered as much for the striking video with the ‘mannequin’ girl band performing with a nattily dressed Robert Palmer the singer and songwriter. Originally recorded as a duet with Chaka Khan but released as a solo when Chaka Khan’s label would not allow her to appear on the song. The video would win several awards and be influential in many others that followed it including Palmer’s own “Simply Irresistible”.
Robert Palmer unfortunately left us in 2003 at the young age of 54, the result of a heart attack.
Oh yeah the misunderstood lyric, you’re gonna laugh: “Might as well face it you’re a dick with a glove”. No I didn’t make that up and you will never hear this song the same way again.
