Monday April 27, 2020 “Steppin Out” Joe Jackson

Multi-instrumentalist and songwritrer Joe Jackson has said that he played every instrument on this track with the exception of the drums and that much of the percussion was done with a drum machine. The song was written while Jackson, who was born in the UK, was living in New York City, video scenes of which are included with this jaunty tune which was produced by David Kershenbaum who would also work with Duran Duran, Supertramp, Bryan Adams and Cat Stevens among many others.

Joe Jackson’s first album/CD *Look Sharp* was declared one of the top 100 debut albums of all time by Rolling Stone and if you are not familiar with his catalog, I encourage you to check it out as you will find a wide variety of eclectic but interesting songs and arrangements.

And in a strange twist of logic, Jackson has frequently protested against smoking bans, being an inveterate smoker himself.

Stay safe and well…and be ready to start steppin’ out, soon we hope.

Now
The mist across the window hides the lines
But nothing hides the color of the lights that shine
Electricity so fine
Look and dry your eyes

We So tired of all the darkness in our lives
With no more angry words to say
Can come alive
Get into a car and drive
To the other side

Me babe, steppin' out
Into the night Into the light
You babe, steppin' out
Into the night Into the light

We
Are young but getting old before our time
We'll leave the T.V. and the radio behind
Don't you wonder what we'll find Steppin' out tonight

You
Can dress in pink and blue just like a child
And in a yellow taxi turn to me and smile
We'll be there in just a while If you follow me

Me babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light
You babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light

Me babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light
You babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light
Me babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light
