Saturday July 9, 2022 “I Wanna Go Back” Eddie Money

More ‘stuff’ this time with Eddie Money and I pretty much like everything that he did. Maybe not a great singer but he was a decent saxophonist and he had a knack for catchy rock & roll tunes, with great hooks which he delivered with a surprising amount of polished, radio-friendly finesse and he had a positive, friendly, comfortable voice and he seemed to be exactly that kind of guy in person.

Eddie Mahoney who grew up in Woodhaven Queens, was going to follow in his grandfather, father and brother’s footsteps and become a New York City policeman and he attended the New York Police Academy during the early '70s, but at night he sang in rock & roll bands under the name Eddie Money. Eventually the lure of rock & roll offered more attraction than being a policeman.

Money moved to Berkeley, California. and became a regular at Bay Area clubs, where he eventually got the attention of legendary promoter Bill Graham, who signed the singer to his management company. Graham also secured him a contract with Columbia Records, and Money released his eponymous debut in 1977.

Eddie Money has twelve top twenty singles, has recorded eighteen albums and has sold more than twenty eight million albums.  And he returned Ronnie Spector to the listening audience after her nearly twenty year absence from music with their duet on “Take Me Home Tonight”...'just like Ronnie said, be my little baby.'

Unfortunately both Eddie Money and Ronnie Spector left us but they both left us a wonderful catalog of fine pop tunes.

Stay safe and well…and I guess as Eddie Money suggests we all might want to go back for one reason or another but what might that desired change to the past do to the balance of our lives.

I was listening to the radio

I heard a song reminded me of long ago

Back then I thought that things were never gonna change

It used to be that I never had to feel the pain

I know that things will never be the same now

 I want to go back

And do it all over again

But I can't go back I know

I want to go back

Cause I'm feeling so much older

But I can't go back I know

I recall hanging out on Friday night

The first slow dance

Hoping that I'll get it right

Back then I thought I'd never ever stand alone

It used to be that a lonely heart was never shown

I know that things will never be the same

 I want to go back

And do it all over again

But I can't go back I know

I want to go back

Cause I'm feeling so much older

But I can't go back I know

 Can't go back

 I can't go back

I know now that things will never be the same

 I said

I want to go back

And do it all over again

But I can't go back I know

I want to go back

Cause I'm feeling so much older

But I can't go back I know

 I want to go back

And do it all over again

But I can't go back I know

I want to go back

Cause I'm feeling so much older

But I can't go back I know

 I want to go back

And do it all over again

But I can't go back I know

I want to go back

Cause I'm feeling so much older

But I can't go back I know

 No, No

And do it all over...
