Sunday July 3, 2022 “More Than I Can Say” Leo Sayer

Today’s song was written in 1959 by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison, two of Buddy Holly’s band mates in the Crickets who also recorded a version of "More Than I Can Say" that unfortunately didn’t chart in the US.  Bobby Vee took a shot with his own interpretation of the song in 1961 and that cracked the Top 100 but was not the big success that the song was for Leo Sayer with his 1981 number one rendition.

“More Than I Can Say” was not Leo Sayer’s first appearance on the US charts but rather that would have been with “The Show Must Go On” a song he co-wrote that was recorded by Three Dog Night who had a top five hit with it in 1974.  Sayer’s first solo hit as an artist would be in 1976 with the ever so catchy “You Make Me FeelLike Dancing” which would be a number one hit in the US and would win Sayer a Grammy for Best R&B song.

Today’s song, “More Than I Can Say” would be an international top five song for Leo Sayer but one of his last charting singles.

Sayer has sold nearly four million albums and has had ten top twenty singles and looks just like exercise character Richard Simmons. Check them out and let me know if you agree.  Richard Simmons here and Leo Sayer here.

Stay safe and well…and enjoy this lovely tune that has been recorded by so many artists.

Wow wow yea yea

I love you more than I can say

I’ll love you twice as much tomorrow

Oh love you more than I can say

Wow wow yea yea

I miss you ev’ry single day

Why must my life be filled with sorrow

I love you more than I can say

Why don’t you know I need you so

Oh tell me please I gotta know

Do you mean to make me cry

Am I just another guy

Wow wow yea yea

I love you more than I can say

I’ll love you twice as much tomorrow

Oh love you more than I can say

I love you more than I can say

I love you more than I can say
