Tuesday June 28, 2022 “Summer Breeze” Seals & Crofts
OK I realize that ‘summer ‘ is in the title of this song but everytime I hear this top ten song which was released in the summer of 1972 it takes me right back to the lazy, happy summer nights of that year and that musical ‘summer breeze always makes me feel fine’.
Jim Seals and Dash Crofts met as members of The Champs in 1965, think the instrumental song “Tequila”, and after that they played in a band with singer/guitarist Glen Campbell, himself a later member of The Champs. After that Seals & Crofts would bounce around to some other groups before forming one of the most successful soft rock acts of the 70s.
Both Seals and Crofts were singer/songwriters and multi-instrumentalists and their partnership would generate six top twenty songs and ten albums over roughly a seven year span.
Jim Seals’ younger brother Dan was half of the successful country-rock duo England Dan and John Ford Coley (“I’d Really Love to See You Tonight”) and no Dan didn’t come from England but rather acquired his nickname in his youth because of his love of British rock groups.
Stay safe and well…and enjoy those summer breezes as they blow through the jasmine of your mind.
