Sunday June 26, 2022 “You're the Best Thing” The Style Council
In 1972 Paul Weller formed The Jam with classmates from his secondary school and they would have a remarkable ten year run most notably in the UK with tunes that were both critically acclaimed and favorites with the music buying public.
In 1982 Weller decided to end The Jam to experiment in a wider range of music rooted in American R&B, jazz and soul and recorded with layers of synthesizers and drum machines and he would start The Style Council along with keyboard player Mick Talbot who had previously worked with Dexys Midnight Runners (“Come on Eileen”) and other bands.
Much like The Jam before them, The Style Council would have a decent ten year run primarily on their home turf in the UK and Paul Weller, after the demise of that band, would move on to a successful solo career releasing more than fifteen albums.
Stay safe and well…and today’s lovely song never really made a significant appearance in the US charts, but all I can say is what do the charts know about good music?
