Tuesday June 8, 2021 “Roll to Me” Del Amitri

You know I have a fascination about band names and Del Amitri's founding member and main songwriter, Justin Currie, explained in 2010 that the band's name "was invented to be meaningless – basically a corruption of the Greek name 'Dimitri'.  Another perfectly sound reason for a band name.

Apparently a man with a dark sense of humor, or maybe someone just sick of insipid interview questions, when Justin Currie was questioned about the meaning of “Roll to Me” in an interview he replied “it’s about a girl in a wheelchair”.  That was pretty much the end of that interview.

And you may never think of this song the same way again.

Another Scottish band much like Texas from last week, Del Amitri have had remarkable success in the UK and Europe but limited opportunities in the US, “Roll to Me” was their top charting US song reaching the top ten.  Five Del Amitri albums have reached the Top 10 in the UK and globally they have sold six million albums.

Stay safe and well...and enjoy two minutes of pop fun.

Look around your world pretty baby

Is it everything you hoped it'd be

The wrong guy, the wrong situation

The right time to roll to me

 Roll to me

Look into your heart pretty baby

Is it aching with some nameless need?

Is there something wrong

And you can't put your finger on it?

Right, then roll to me

And I don't think I have ever seen

A soul so in despair

So if you want to talk the night through

Guess who will be there?

So don't try to deny it pretty baby

You've been down so long you can hardly see

When the engine's stalled and it won't stop raining

It's the right time to roll to me

Roll to me

Roll to me

And I don't think I have ever seen

A soul so in despair

So if you want to talk the night through

Guess who will be there?

 So,

Look around your world pretty baby

Is it everything you hoped it'd be

The wrong guy, the wrong situation

The right time to roll to me

The right time to roll to me

The right time to roll to me...oooh
