Sunday June 6, 2021 “Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine” Walker Brothers
The Walker Brothers had a string of very successful UK hits with the occasional US hit. Oddly they were neither British nor brothers, oh yeah and none of them were actually named Walker. US citizens Scott Engel, John Maus and Gary Leeds formed the group in 1964 in Los Angeles and decided on the band name, The Walker Brothers because "they liked it'.
That's some of the best logic for a band name that I can recall and we've covered a number of them in the past.
"The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" was co-written by Bob Gaudio who was a member of the vocal group the Four Seasons, maybe he was Winter, and it was originally recorded unsuccessfully as a solo by one of the other Four Seasons, Frankie Valli, perhaps he was Summer. The success of the Walker Brothers version likely hinges on it's imitation of Phil Spector's 'wall of sound' production values as it has a remarkably similar sound to the Spector produced Righteous Brothers songs like "You've Lost That Loving Feeling".
The Righteous Brothers were also not actually brothers either but probably they were righteous.
Stay safe and well...and donate any of those loneliness cloaks that you might have in your closet.
