Sunday May 30, 2021 “Another Park Another Sunday” Doobie Brothers

This song has an interesting history.

“Another Park, Another Sunday” was originally released as the “A” side of the record, way back when there were records, since the record company and the Doobie Brothers felt it was the hit and the “B” side, often thought of as filler, was the song  “Black Water”.

In yet another case of disc jockeys flipping the record and liking “ Black Water'' which became a number one hit.  However, Tom Johnston, then lead singer and songwriter said that the flip was done not so much because the DJs thought ”Black Water” was a better song but because they took offense to the lyric “...the radio just seems to bring me down…” contained in “Another Park, Another Sunday”.

The Doobie Brothers, who have two very different sounds, one with Tom Johnston doing the lead vocals and one with Michael McDonald doing the lead vocals, have recorded fourteen albums/CDs and have sold more than 48 million records/CDs.  They were eligible to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 but did not make it until 2020.  Who knows what that even means.

Stay safe and well...and enjoy this song with its very definitive 1970's sound.

I'm sittin' in my room,

I'm starin' out my window

And I wonder where you've gone

Thinking back on the happy hours just before the dawn

Outside the wind is blowin'

It seems to call your name again

Where have you gone

City streets and lonely highways

I travel down

My car is empty and the radio just seems to bring me down

I'm just tryin' to find me

A pretty smile that I can get into

It's true, I'm lost without you

Another lonely park, another Sunday

Why is it life turns out that way

Just when you think you got a good thing

It seems to slip away

It's warm outside, no clouds are in the sky

But I need a place to go and hide

I keep it to myself

I don't want nobody else

To see me cryin' all those tears in my eyes

Another park, another Sunday

Why is it life turns out that way

Just when you think you got a good thing

It seems to slip away

Another park, another Sunday

It's dark and empty thanks to you

I got to get myself together

But it's hard to do
