Wednesday February 2, 2022 “Wonderful World” Sam Cooke

Today’s Valentine song always reminds me of my high school days, “don’t know much about History, don’t know much Biology, don’t know much about the French I took, don’t know much Geography, don’t know much Trigonometry, don’t know much about Algebra…”.

Sam Cooke, the singer/co-songwriter of “Wonderful World” did manage to leave off a bunch of other subjects from my misspent hgh school days but he did pretty much capture the essence.

Cooke has been described as “...the most important soul singer in history, its primary inventor, and its most popular and beloved performer in both the black and white communities.”  He also was one of the most successful businessmen establishing his own music publishing company and record label as well as being a strong civil rights activist,

His death also represents one of the most unresolved mysteries of the era.

“Wonderful World” was one of Sam Cooke’s 29 top forty hits between 1957 and 1964, that’s seven top forty hits per year, approximately one every six weeks if you were counting.  "Wonderful World" was written by music legends Lou Alder and Herb Alpert, with Cooke adding the finishing lyrical touches, and the trio used the songwriting pseudonym "Barbara Campbell," the name of Cooke's high school sweetheart…wonder if Barbara received any royalties.

Stay safe and well and…in case you weren’t looking, today is Tuesday February 2, 2022 or Twosday 2/2/22…sorry.

Don't know much about history,

don't know much Biology.

Don't know much about a science book,

don't know much about the French I took.

But I do know that I love you,

and I know that if you love me, too,

what a wonderful world this would be.

Don't know much about Geography,

don't know much Trigonometry.

Don't know much about Algebra,

don't know what a slide rule is for.

But I know that one and one is two,

and if this one could be with you,

what a wonderful world this would be.

I don't claim to be an 'A' student,

but I'm tryin' to be.

For maybe by being an 'A'-student, baby,

I can win your love for me.

Don't know much about History,

don't know much Biology.

Don't know much about a science book,

don't know much about the French I took.

But I do know that I love you,

and I know that if you love me, too,

what a wonderful world this would be.

History

Biology

Science book

French I took.

But I do know that I love you,

and I know that if you love me, too,

what a wonderful world this would be.
