Saturday August 22, 2020, “Somewhere Only We Know” Keane

This is such a nice song.

 The band Keane, originally The Lotus Eaters. was formed by three childhood friends that grew up together, went to the same schools and shared the same babysitter Cherry Keane, who was a friend of lead vocalist Tom Chaplin’s mother.  When their babysitter passed away they felt it appropriate to rename their band after the woman who had always encouraged them to pursue their imaginations and dreams so they became Cherry Keane, later shortened to Keane.

 Keyboardist and primary songwriter Tim Rice-Oxley was offered a spot in Coldplay as Chris Martin was forming that band but he declined as he felt Keane was just coming into their own. When Rice-Oxley began writing "Somewhere" he said he was thinking of David Bowie’s “Heroes”.

 Lead singer Tom Chaplin had thought of himself as the singer/songwriter in the group but when he heard Rice-Oxley’s “Somewhere” he said, “ 'There's no way I'm in this league. I should just put my pen and pad down.' 

 Stay safe and well...and we should all be able to occasionally go ’somewhere’ only we know.

 Thought that this covid version of the song was cool and it's always fun to see the place these folks choose to do their in-home videos.
