Friday May 1, 2020 “Banditos” The Refreshments
Today’s song of the day comes from an album/CD titled ‘Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big & Buzzy’ which sets the tone nicely for another frivoulous Friday. And who doesn’t enjoy a raucous tale about bank robbery, Captain Jean Luc Picard IDs, sugar in gas tanks, slashed tires and ultimately, betrayal…’I got the pistol, so I get the pesos’.
The Refreshments had considered calling their band Pop Enema but apparently good judgment prevailed and they went with the more mainstream alternative. Started in Tempe AZ by Roger Clyne, their lead singer and primary songwriter and drummer Dusty Denham around the same time as the Gin Blossoms, another Tempe band but unfortunately the Refreshments never quite achieved their level of success.
As an aside, a song they typically used for their soundchecks was picked up and used as the theme for the animated TV show ‘King of the Hill’.
So enjoy this high energy live version, jump around with the band and then let’s go rob a bank. Why…because that’s where the money is.
Stay safe and well…and frivolous.
