Monday June 1, 2020 “No One to Run With” Allman Brothers Band

Yeah, with all this isolation it does kind of feel like there’s nobody left to run with anymore.

Although guitarist Dicky Betts wrote this song with its Bo Diddley beat about leaving the past behind, lead vocals were handled by surviving Allman brother Greg.  This band has had a long and successful career spanning more than 40 years but their success also came with its share of tragedies.

Lead guitarist and songwriter Duane Allman, who was also a part of the supergroup Derek and the Dominoes was killed in a motorcycle accident and then a year later bass guitarist Berry Oakley was killed three blocks from the site of Duane Allman’s accident, also on a motorcycle.  They also lost drummer Butch Trucks to a suicide.

On the brighter side they left behind a huge catalog of memorable music and a wide association with many other musicians who would go on to form their own groups like Government Mule, The Dead, Widespread Panic, Sea Level, Tedeschi Trucks Band and many others.

Stay safe and well...and do some of the crazy things you used to do before.

Everybody wants to know where Jimmy has gone
He left town, I doubt if he's coming back home

Well Tony got a job, three kids and a lovely wife
Working at the commerce bank for the rest of his life

[Chorus]
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody left to do the crazy things we used to do before
Nobody left to run with anymore

I'm gonna hit the road, adios my friend
Go someplace and start all over again

Don't know where I'm going, like a gypsy out on the road
I'll go someplace and join a traveling show

[Chorus]
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody wants to do the crazy things we used to do before
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody left to run with anymore

I think Jimmy must have had the right idea
Packed his stuff and he got right out of here

I don't know where he's at but I'm sure that he's ok
Now I realize what Jimmy was trying to say

[Chorus]
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody wants to do the crazy things we used to do before
Nobody left to run with anymore

Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody left to run with anymore
