Wednesday October 21, 2020 “On the Dark Side” John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band

Enigmatic, rising NJ rocker Eddie Wilson has disappeared.

Once again we find music director Kenny Vance (Streets of Fire) commissioning songs for the movie Eddie & the Cruisers, a fictional account of an idealistic band leader looking to achieve musical immortality.  The story is part Asbury Park Bruce Springsteen and part Jim Morrison but mostly rock and roll, B movie entertainment.  Kenny Vance by the way was a member of the sixties vocal group Jay & the Americans.

The music for this movie was provided by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, a group with a couple of minor local Rhode Island hits before their involvement with the movie. They would find a level of stardom and brief suxxess through this film which although it did poorly in its initial theatrical release became somewhat of a cult classic when it hit HBO.

“On the Dark Side” was written by John Cafferty and would eventually become a top ten hit.

There was a sequel to Eddie and the Cruisers to let us know what actually happened to Eddie Wilson but apparently nobody cared, the box office was abysmal.

Stay safe and well...and watch Michael Pare over-emote while lip synching as Eddie performing this song in the movie.

The dark side's callin' now, nothin' is real

She'll never know just how I feel

From out of the shadows she walks like a dream

Make me feel crazy, make me feel so mean

Ain't nothin' gonna save you from the love that's blind

Slip to the dark side and cross that line

On the dark side, oh yeah

On the dark side, oh yeah

The dark side's callin' now, nothin' is real

She'll never know just how I feel

From out of the shadows she walks like a dream

Make me feel crazy, make me feel so mean

Ain't nothin' gonna save you from the love that's blind

Slip to the dark side and cross that line

On the dark side, oh yeah

On the dark side, oh yeah

Ain't nothin' gonna save you from the love that's blind

Slip to the dark side and cross that line

On the dark side, oh yeah

On the dark side, oh yeah

On the dark side, oh yeah

On the dark side, oh yeah
