Saturday January 23, 2021 “Someday, Someway” Marshall Crenshaw
He was John Lennon for eighteen months.
Marshall Crenshaw is an American singer-songwriter who got his first break playing John Lennon in the off-Broadway touring company of the musical Beatlemania and then went on to play Buddy Holly in the movie La Bamba that starred Lou Diamond Phillips as Ritchie Valens. Pretty good creds for a blossoming rock star.
Crenshaw said his inspiration for “Someday, Someway” was the Gene Vincent tune
“Lotta Lovin”, nothing is really new is it? He said, “I’d used the basic groove to “Lotta Lovin” as a starting point, thought that was cool. And I liked the lyrics, they were nice and spare but had some depth, lots of meanings and implications.”
He has frequently referenced his respect for Buddy Holly,”I've been a Buddy Holly fan all my life. The joy still comes across in his music. It's really got its own je ne sais quoi. It really stands apart from a lot of '50s rock, because it conveys a sense of intimacy. I think it's because it was made in this little building on the side of a highway late at night with this isolated group of people.”
