Sunday January 17, 2021 “More Than This” Roxy Music

Here’s a moody piece from the last Roxy Muisc album/CD Avalon.

Roxy Music was just a darned interesting band that had some serious talent wander through its relatively short history that would include three number one album/CDs and ten top ten singles..

Front man and primary songwriter Bryan Ferry had auditioned at one point for the band King Crimson but his “elegant seductive croon” didn’t fit the band's image.  He would study art but be influenced to give music a try by friends David Bowie and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour.  In addition to his Roxy Music association Ferry would have an extensive solo career.

Early lead guitarist Phil Manzanera, hired after the band had auditioned over twenty other guitarists, would also go on to have a significant solo career as well as produce album/CDs for artists like David Gilmour and Split Enz. He has played and toured with artists as varied as Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Jack Bruce and Robert Cray.

Roxy Music keyboard player Brian Eno would go on to be one of the music world’s premiere studio musicians and record producers working with artists like U2, Coldplay, Devo and Talking Heads among many, many others.

Roxy Music broke up because there were artistic differences between, well everyone and Bryan Ferry, apparently a difficult man to get along with.

A lovely song to enjoy, and not at all difficult to get along with.

Stay safe and well...and do cherish those important to you, everyday.

I could feel at the time

There was no way of knowing

Fallen leaves in the night

Who can say where they're blowing

As free as the wind

Hopefully learning

Why the sea on the tide

Has no way of turning

More than this, there is nothing

More than this, tell me one thing

More than this, there is nothing

It was fun for a while

There was no way of knowing

Like a dream in the night

Who can say where we're going

No care in the world

Maybe I'm learning

Why the sea on the tide

Has no way of turning

More than this, you know there is nothing

More than this, tell me one thing

More than this, no there is nothing

 More than this

Nothing

More than this

More than this

Nothing
