Saturday September 11, 2021 “Our Day Will Come“ Amy Winehouse
The last member of this week’s version of the ‘27 club’ is Amy Winehouse, there are many others so there is likely to be a future week of club members..
Amy Winehouse was everything you’d expect from an unforgettable singer, amazingly talented living that reckless rock’n’roll lifestyle and had a sensational voice. Much has been written about her short life but here are a few things that perhaps you might not know about her.
Amy won a scholarship to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but she did not graduate because she was reportedly expelled for ‘not applying herself’ and piercing her nose. One of her first jobs was as a celebrity reporter at World Entertainment News Network.
Amy’s debut album Frank was named after her favorite singer Frank Sinatra, and she has said that one of her most famous and ultimately ironic songs “Rehab” was written on the fly and as a joke while she was working with producer Mick Ronson.
Known for a variety of tattoos, her first one, at age 15 was of Betty Boop which may have reflected her association with the past as many of her retro sounding songs like today’s reggae version of “Our Day Will Come” which was originally a non-reggae hit for Ruby & the Romantics in 1963.
Amy Winehouse died July 23, 2011, age 27.
