Saturday March 26, 2022 “Everlong” Foo Fighters

We’ve lost a lot of music recently; Ronnie Spector, Meatloaf, Michael Nesmith, Charlie Watts, Don Everly and Mary Wilson of the Supremes just to mention a few, and I just read that Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed.

Perhaps not the household name that the aforementioned are but I just finished Foo Fighters founder Dave Grohl’s autobiography, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music and in his acknowledgements he recognizes the special relationship that he had with Taylor Hawkins and not just because they were both drummers  He referred to him as his best friend and his ‘brother from another mother’.

Grohl is a nice man. Think about the eleven year old girl who challenged him online to a drum off (and won) who Grohl then invited onstage to play live on “Everlong” which closes all of the Foo Fighters concerts.  He is a devoted father of three girls who once spent an entire day traveling on planes from Australia to attend his daughters “Daddy’s Day Dance” in California...and then spent the next day flying to get back on the Foo Fighters Australian tour after the dance.

Dave Grohl once fell off a stage and broke his leg at a Foo Fighters concert during the second song of the show.  He had his band carry him back on stage in a chair to finish the concert and not disappoint the 52,000 fans that had come to see him.

He uses his wealth to support at least sixteen charities over the decades including Stand Up To Cancer, the Elton John Aids Foundation, Worldwide Orphans Foundation, Teen Cancer America and Autism Speaks.

I tell you all this because Taylor Hawkins' passing may not impact you and me as perhaps some of the earlier musical artists mentioned may have but it will impact Dave Grohl big time…and Dave Grohl is a nice man.

Hello

I've waited here for you

Everlong

 Tonight, I throw myself into

And out of the red

Out of her head, she sang

Come down and waste away with me

Down with me

Slow, how you wanted it to be

I'm over my head

Out of her head, she sang

 And I wonder

When I sing along with you

If everything could ever be this real forever

If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you

You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

She sang

 Breathe out

So I can breathe you in

Hold you in

And now

I know you've always been

Out of your head

Out of my head, I sang

 And I wonder

When I sing along with you

If everything could ever feel this real forever

If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you

You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

She sang

 And I wonder

If everything could ever feel this real forever

If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you

You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
