Sunday April 10, 2021 “So Into You” Atlanta Rhythm Section
The foundation for this Southern band, often referred to as a more radio friendly version of Lynyrd Skynyrd, was the successful pop band Classics IV who had top ten hits in the 60s and 70s with “Spooky”, “Stormy”, “Traces” and “Everyday With You Girl”.
After Classic IV disbanded the members of the Atlanta Rhythm Section (ARS) became the session band for the local Doraville, GA recording facility Studio One which would record bands like Journey, The Outlaws and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Today’s ARS 1977 top ten single “So Into You” was co-written by songwriter Buddy Buie, and ARS band members Dean Daughtry (keyboards) and Dan Nix (drums). The song peaked at number two and was held out of the number one spot by the Eagles “Hotel California”.
In 1978, ARS recorded their Top Ten album Champagne Jam, which spawned two additional hit singles, "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight" and "Imaginary Lover." Unfortunately for ARS in 1980 the musical genre would move into 'new wave' and their smooth, southern sound would be left behind.
Stay safe and well…and Doraville is twenty two miles from Atlanta but the Doraville Rhythm Section just doesn't have the same cache as the Atlanta Rhythm Section and the acronym DRS looks like a bad grammatical abbreviation for doctors.
