Friday March 18, 2022 “Stay High” Brittany Howard
Brittany Howard is the real deal both as a vocalist and guitarist. She fronted the breakout R&B group Alabama Shakes and was responsible for all of the recognition that group received and here she is now breaking out on her own.
Perhaps an unlikely candidate as a magnetic frontperson as the leader of Alabama Shakes, but Brittany Howard made an immediate, indelible impression with the group's 2012 debut, Boys & Girls. Howard's fame quickly eclipsed that of her band, an escalation that spoke to her captivating presence as a performer.
Her compelling vocal performances, and skilled guitar work would earn Alabama Shakes, the band she formed with high school friend Zac Cockrell, three Grammy Awards with their second album Sound of Color in 2016. She would launch her solo career in 2019 with the funky, autobiographical album Jaime, named after her older sister who passed away in 1998. The album earned seven Grammy nominations, winning Best Rock Song for today’s song "Stay High."
At Lollapalooza in 2015, Howard was invited on stage to perform a duet of "Get Back" with Paul McCartney and she also performed at the ceremony for Eddie Murphy's Mark Twain Prize. In 2015, Howard was named the recipient of Billboard's Women in Music "Powerhouse" Award.
Stay safe and well…and do take Ms. Howard’s advice in today’s song “smile and laugh and jump and clap and yell and holler and just feel great.”
