Sunday March 13, 2022 “Baby Come Back” Player

According to Darryl Hall this is one of the most requested songs that Hall & Oates never recorded and Player co-songwriter Peter Beckett acknowledges that the sound was indeed modeled with John and Darryl in mind.

Player lead singer Peter Beckett is from Liverpool, England, but moved to Los Angeles to join a group called Skyband, which broke up after one album. By the time he formed the band Player with Texan J.C. Crowley, Beckett’s wife had left him and returned to England. Crowley was also going through a breakup, so they both channeled their feelings into today’s 1978 number one song, “Baby Come Back”.

"Baby Come Back" would be a staple in what would later be known as "Yacht Rock" that mellow, sophisticated, and often inappropriately maligned music.

Player had a few additional minor hits before breaking up in 1982. After the demise of the band, Beckett joined Australia's Little River Band, Player bassist Ron Moss became a popular star on the CBS Soap Opera The Bold And The Beautiful, playing the character Ridge Forrester and Crowley went on to write songs recorded by Smokey Robinson, Johnny Cash, Little River Band and many others.

Stay safe and well…and jangly guitars along with great vocals and harmonies, you know I am all-in, join me.

Spending all my nights, all my money going out on the town

Doing anything just to get you off of my mind

But when the morning comes, I'm right back where I started again

And tryna forget you is just a waste of time

Baby come back, any kind of fool could see

There was something in everything about you

Baby come back, you can blame it all on me

I was wrong, and I just can't live without you

All day long, wearing a mask of false bravado

Tryna keep up a smile that hides a tear

But as the sun goes down, I get that empty feeling again

How I wish to God that you were here

Baby come back, oh baby, any kind of fool could see

There was something in everything about you

Baby come back, you can blame it all on me

I was wrong, and I just can't live without you

Now that I put it all together, oh

Give me the chance to make you see

Have you used up all the love in your heart?

Nothing left for me? Ain't there nothing left for me?

Baby come back, oh darling, any kind of fool could see

There was something in everything about you

Baby come back, listen baby, you can blame it all on me

I was wrong, and I just can't live without you

I was wrong, and I just can't live
