Saturday October 9, 2021 “Hold On” Wilson Phillips
Wilson Phillips first appeared in 1990 with a harmony-rich sound that helped send three singles from their first album to the top of the record charts including today’s song, "Hold On".
Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips comprised the vocal trio, whose sudden success was matched by an equally impressive pedigree. The two Wilson sisters had grown up in California with their father, legendary Beach Boy leader Brian Wilson, and often made appearances on his albums throughout their childhood. Chynna's parents, meanwhile, were John and Michelle Phillips of the folk-rock band the Mamas & the Papas.
Wilson Phillips first album, Impulsive which contained all of their initial hits, was produced by Glen Ballard who also wrote most of the songs on this album. Ballard would achieve even greater success in partnership with Alanis Morissette on her 1995 blockbuster album, and now Tony winning Broadway musical, Jagged Little Pill.
Cousin (not really) Joe Walsh, current guitarist for the Eagles and the man who gave us "Funk #49" and "Life's Been Good," played guitar on this track as well as other songs from this Wilson Phillips album.
Stay safe and well...and as for advice from this song, let’s go with “no one can change your life except for you.”
