Saturday October 2, 2021 “Fa Fa” Guster
The last piece of rock & roll nonsense for the week is a really nice song.
Guster was formed in 1991 by three freshmen at Tufts University who honed their craft playing local coffee bars and in the common area of the university. They remained an underground band until the release of their third album in 1999, Lost and Gone Forever which contained their breakout hit, today’s song “Fa Fa”.
The instruments that these versatile band members play include: guitar, bass guitar, banjo, trumpet, piano, harmonica, ukulele, keyboards, keytar, drums, lap steel guitar, bongos and of course cowbell.
They are also a band with a sense of humor who often play some unique tunes as encores. Tunes like the theme from Cheers, “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, “In the Air Tonight” and one of my favorite sing along tunes, Katy Perry’s “Firework”. At some of their shows they have also opened for themselves as Peace Soldiers and Trippin’ Balls.
Stay safe and well...and sure there has been some ‘nonsense’ this week but, you know it has all been good music. So hats off to rock & roll, even with its nonsense it’s still entertaining as hell.
