Wednesday April 28, 2021 “Romeo & Juliet” The Killers (Copy)
This is not the same stretch as the previous covers but it is an interesting interpretation of the Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler (who appears on the Killers 2017 album/CD Wonderful Wonderful) written tune updating the Shakespeare story.
Saw an interview with Killers lead singer Brandon Flowers a while back and he was asked a question about the band’s name, a question that always intrigues me, “Why did you choose that name for the band?” to which he replied, “When I do my income taxes, where they ask for an occupation, I want to be able to say ‘killer’.”
The Killers multi-platinum 2004 debut, Hot Fuss, became one of the decade's biggest releases, spawning four hit singles -- including their most enduring hit, "Mr. Brightside" ...and catapulting the group into the international spotlight. The Killers have been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, seven BRIT Awards, and twenty-four NME Awards.
Some other Killer stuff:
The Killers are the only international act to have a six-album streak of No. 1 albums, from their debut.
Single "Mr. Brightside" is the longest-charting single on the UK Singles Chart of all time (260 weeks) and the most-streamed track released prior to 2010 in the UK.
Hot Fuss charted in the year-end Albums Chart each year from 2004-2009 and ranks among the top 20 longest-charting albums on the Albums Chart.
Sam's Town charted in the year-end UK Albums Chart each year from 2006-2009 and has spent more than two years on the UK Albums Chart. They’re pretty big in the US as well.
Enjoy cover number three, this is just such a lovely, romantic story song, sung with the sadness that it requires.
Stay safe and well...and this cover may actually be better than the original, IMHO.
