May 1, 2021 “Total Eclipse of the Heart” Bonnie Tyler
I would be remiss not to note the passing of theatrical, melodramatic rock songwriter extraordinaire Jim Steinman earlier this week.
Jim Steinman didn't invent theatrical rock & roll, but it could be argued he perfected it. Steinman’s break into the mainstream was Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell album/CD produced by Todd Rundgren which is one of the best selling albums of all time with sales in excess of fifty million copies.
Producer Todd Rundgren brought in his band Utopia along with Max Weinberg and Roy Bittan from Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band to provide the backing for the recording of Bat Out of Hell.
Steinman would write songs for the movie Streets of Fire, a movie so bad it’s good, produce a Billy Squire album/CD, and write “Holdong Out for a Hero” from the movie Footloose sung by Bonnie Tyler. He was working on a London theatrical version of Bat out of Hell but it was unfortunately put on hold with covid and then Jim Steinman passed away on April 19, 2021.
Stay safe and well...and enjoy this powerful live version of Jim Steinman’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” showcasing Ms.Tyler’s remarkable vocal talents.
