Thursday April 22, 2021 “Big Yellow Taxi” Counting Crows (w/Vanessa Carlton)

IIt’s Earth Day 2021 and they are still paving paradise and putting up parking lots.

Counting Crows became an 'overnight sensation' in 1994. Only a year earlier, the band was a group of unknown musicians, filling in for the absent Van Morrison at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony when they were introduced by an enthusiastic Robbie Robertson.

They were fans of the Alex Chilton group Big Star, the band that launched more rock groups then they sold records and Counting Crows once opened for them under the name the Shatners.  You know I have a fascination for band names and the inspiration for Counting Crows apparently comes from a phrase that suggests “that is about as pointless as counting crows.’

If you don’t have a clear image of lead singer and primary songwriter Adam Duritz, check out the video then think that he has dated Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Mary Louise Parker, Samantha Mathis, Emmy Rossum and Christina Applegate. The benefits maybe of being a rock star.

Counting Crows have been nominated for a number of Grammys and have sold more than twenty million albums/CDs.

Stay safe and well...and maybe make that small change that will contribute to making the planet a better place for Earth Day.  If we all make small changes it can lead to big results.

They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot

With a pink hotel, a boutique

And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go

That you don't know what you've got til it's gone

They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot

 They took all the trees

And put 'em in a tree museum

And they charged the people

A dollar and a half to seem 'em

 No no no

Don't it always seem to go,

That you don't know what you've got

Til it's gone

They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot

 Hey farmer farmer

Put away the DDT

I don't care about spots on my apples

Leave me the birds and the bees

Please!

Don't it always seem to go

That you don't know what you've got

Til it's gone

They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot

Hey, now they paved paradise

To put up a parking lot

Why not?

 Listenin' late last night

I heard the screen door slam

And a big yellow taxi

Took my girl away

Now, don't it always seem to go

That you don't know what you've got

Til it's gone

They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot

 Hey now, now

Don't it always seem to go

That you don't know what you got

Til it's gone

They paved paradise

To put up a parking lot

Why not?

They paved paradise

To put up a parking lot

Hey hey hey

Paved paradise

To put up a parking lot

 I don't want give it

Why you want give,

Why you want give it all away?

Hey hey hey

Now you want give it,

Ah she want to give it

Cause she givin' it all away

Now now now

 I don't want give it

Why you want give,

Why you want give it all away?

Giving it all, giving it all away

 Why you want it?

Why do you want it? (She's giving it all away)

 Hey pave paradise

Put up a parking lot
